St. Vincent is a volcanic Island and forms with forty other islands the island state St. Vincent and the Grenadines. 1498 Christopher Columbus arrived in St. Vincent where the Caribs lived. It remained very long uncolonised It was occupied by the British in the 18th century. Whale hunting was an important part of the local economy. Today there is an agreement with greenpeace to hunt four Humpback whales a year for the own consumption. Life in Roseau, the capital of Dominica, is much more hectic. It has the unofficial name “The Nature Island”. Domenica is very mountainous and has a lot of rivers and waterfalls. Chistopher Columbus did not set a food on the island, but gave her its name from “Domingo”, Sunday. Dominica was the last island colonised by the Europeans because of the resistance of the caribs. Herbs are used for healing, the very traditional medical knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation. Canoes are constructed from a single treetrunk. St Vincent and Domenica have the only Carib reservations in the whole Caribbean. It is here that the descendants of the people who gave the name to the region continued to live. They are the last reminents who long resisted the colonial ambition of the European and never allowed to be enslaved by Hannes Naderhirn, 2010, future production&promotion ------- Caribbean Moments shows a different side to the Caribbean. Everyone visualises sand, sunshine and palm trees – but hardly anyone really discovers what lies behind them. In fact an unbelievable variety of cultures, music and religions has developed as a result of the different influences – African, Indian, English, French and authentically Caribbean. This documentary series attempts to portray the people - be they the Rastas, who have a lot to say about their mission, the Amerindians in Trinidad, who still have their own Queen, or the Black Caribs – a mixture of escaped slaves and Caribs. In addition, of course, there’s a huge variety of music: steelpan, parang, calypso, soca and chutney soca shape Trinidad, whilst other islands are especially scenically beautiful, such as Dominica, which is actually a single rain forest and which seduces with its abundant vegetation. Here too are the true Caribs, who occupy themselves with traditional boat building in the same way as their ancestors did centuries ago. The films were produced in 6 parts to create a documentary series that shows what lies beneath the surface.

This tutorial is going to show you how to find and book a flight online. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial you are going to learn how to book a flight online as well as how to get a great price for your ticket. Step # 1 -- Searching for the Best Value Flight Before booking the flight it is a good idea to do some research on the best price available. Fortunately there are many websites available that provide this service, here we are going to be using Skyscanner which can be found at "www.skyscanner.com". You will need to choose where you want to fly from and to and a date for your departure and return. Enter any other details that might apply to you and click "Search". Step # 2 -- Choosing a Flight On the next page results will start to compile showing you the best prices available from several airlines. Check the times and price of the flight and when you are ready to book the ticket click "Select". The details of the journey will be checked by Skyscanner and in the window that opens you need to click "Book". Step # 3 -- Continuing to the Airlines Site You will then be redirected to the relevant airlines website and you should double check to make sure that the price is the same here as it was on Skyscanner -- as you can see here the amount is the same. Depending on which airline you are booking with the process might be different now. Step # 4 -- Completing the Booking In this example we will click "Continue". On the next page check the box to accept the terms and conditions and click "Continue" again. You will then need to enter your traveller information and then click "Continue". Now you will need to select whether you are carrying any baggage and click "Confirm". Select your seat for all the flights and click "Confirm" again. Decline the travel insurance then scroll down to the bottom and click "Continue" again. On the next page you will simply need to enter your credit card details to pay for the flight then click "Purchase" -- as this is just a tutorial we won't do this here, but that is how to book a flight online.

Digital transformation is affecting businesses everywhere, even “floating cities” in the middle of the ocean. Sol Rashidi, Chief Data and Cognitive Officer at Royal Caribbean, tells industry analyst Michael Krigsman at CXOTalk how the cruise line is changing, how data and AI are shaping travel, customer service, and more. For more information, see https://www.cxotalk.com/episode/royal-caribbean-ai-digital-transformation Rashidi offers insight on roles of women in technology, how to balance family and work in tech, and explain the responsibilities of a chief data officer. From the transcript: One doesn't usually think about data and artificial intelligence in the context of cruises. So, how do the pieces fit together? Sol Rashidi: (04:31) So, take what we’ve done in the airline industry, take what we’ve done with the hotel industry, take what we’ve done with consumer products and retail, understanding where they shop, what they typically buy, making suggestions… It’s all around enhancing the customer experience by knowing what they’ve done historically with us, and then being able to predict, suggest, or infer what they may like to do with us in the future. What better industry than the cruising industry to be able to apply that same skillset? So, that’s what we’re trying to do here at Royal. Michael Krigsman: Where does the data come from? What kind of data are you using? And then, what happens to that data? Sol Rashidi: (07:25) So, that’s… It’s a phenomenal question in that. The tagline of enhancing the customer experience, and sort of embarking on a more personalized approach, is the glamorous version of everything. The unglamorous version is the work that we actually have to do. With any company, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with the largest and the smallest of companies: financial industries, supply-chain, manufacturing… And as we all know, in all of our environments, there are a ton of applications and systems that capture data. And to unify this information is an extremely overwhelming and daunting task. So, we’re no different from any other company in that. We have multiple touchpoints. We have multiple organizations. We have multiple third-parties that we work with who quite frankly do a phenomenal job of booking these reservations for us. However, do we necessarily have control or influence over how the information is entered? No. Do we get all the information we want, when we want? No. (08:31) So, being able to join all these disparate systems with different formats, types, comprehensiveness of data, the back-end to sort of build a unified layer of who this guest is prior to them embarking is a very difficult task. And that’s what we’re currently doing. Being able to unify the guests. And, everyone loves to call it as like the 360-view or the 360-profile of a guest, but I think that’s like living in the land of hobbits and unicorns. I think we all strive for it, it’s a bit of a fantasy land, but the actual execution of it is very complicated. (09:10) So, the tagline and the glamorous version of it is more a personalized experience across the customer journey. But in order to do that, we have to codify all the different elements and facets and pieces of information that a guest shares with us and being able to make sense of it. And then, we have to be able to provide that into the right hands of the right individuals who are going to encounter our guests at different points of the journey. So, piecemealing it all together is what we’re taking on right now. Michael Krigsman: (09:37) I want to remind everybody that we're speaking with Sol Rashidi, who is the Chief Data and Cognitive Officer at Royal Caribbean. And right now, there is a tweet chat going on using the hashtag #cxotalk, and you can send in your questions, and we'll try to get to them. (10:00) So, Sol, you've got this data, you're building up this profile of the guest, and so, that's the first part of your job title of Chief Data Officer. But then, you're also the Chief Cognitive Officer. And so, where does the cognitive or AI dimension come into play? Sol Rashidi: (10:24) In multiple, multiple layers. Our biggest challenge is not necessarily how to apply cognitive capabilities, but where to apply because there’s just so much room for opportunity. Leveraging video analytics on the ship, leveraging video analytics prior to embarkation and check-in, leveraging past preferences, sailing information, to infer what they may want in the future, or even infer something they never tried but could potentially like based on other feedback. A lot of it is being able to predict, infer, and suggest in advance of the customer asking so that we could either do one of two things: either enhance the experience because they go, “Oh! I’ve never thought of that. That’s amazing!

Connoisseur Traveler presents a tour and review of the Oasis class, in this instance the "Oasis of the Seas." She is a spectacular cruise ship with amenities unique to Royal Caribbean, including 7 themed neighborhoods, water surfing on the FlowRider, fine dining in Central Park – featuring a James Beard Award winning chef – and by far one of the best concierge team we have experienced thus far. Overall, we awarded this ship 4.7 stars. Our accommodations in the Loft Suites are the best we have experienced thus far at sea; we do highly recommend the Loft Suites as they come with many perks, including private key card access to the Suite floor, key card access to the stunning and social Concierge Lounge, where complimentary wine/beer and appetizers are served, as well as access to the VIP Sun Deck with its VIP exclusive bar and personalized service for Suite, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle members only. Our last three inspections of the Oasis class were in the Loft Suites, which we find to be highly consistent. The Loft Suites primarily cater to couples and professionals. I observed very few children/families in these suites, which added a nice touch of privacy. Overall, I loved the Oasis’ new relaxed dining concept (eat when you want and where you want), and as a Suite Guest or Pinnacle member, you will always be seated at any restaurant at anytime by working with the Concierge. The Cabanas at Labadee offer personalized service. Personally, I prefer the ones over the water, as opposed to the beach area. I took a underwater scooter to enjoy snorkeling in that area. In Jamaica, The horseback ride on the beach is fantastic operated by a legendary Polo family naturally called “Chukka”. This is available for even beginner riders. This is one of the better shore excursions on Jamaica in our opinion that includes a mixture of the beach, and riding with the horses into the ocean which is a blast! The cuisine is by far the best we have experienced on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines… and it’s getting better each time. The biggest pluses are the 20+ dining options, and Central Park 150 was a true destination unto itself. We enjoyed the lessons we experienced on Flowrider on the aft of the ship. We recommend this. Departing from the ship on the last day of the cruise was very easy also. We like that the Concierge is able to arrange your flight boarding passes and luggage transfer direct to the airport, with everything automatically checked in after the end of the cruise on the last day. No worries of finding your luggage on the pier was a relief. We know you will enjoy the Oasis class ships… and we hope to earn your booking: www.connoisseurtraveler.com We are certified Royal Caribbean Expert PLUS Specialists – the highest award level in the RCCL program. Email us to make a booking today: Reservations @ ConnoisseurTraveler.com We hope you enjoyed this brief tour/review of the Oasis Class. Cheers!

Money saving tips for first time cruisers and anyone who likes to save money. Site mentioned in video: http://www.shoretrips.com. Today I've got a few money saving tips Cruises are great; they are like floating all-inclusive hotels. Food, entertainment, and exotic locations all wrapped up into a nice nautical package, but if you're not careful you can end up spending more than you anticipated. And nobody wants that -- right? Okay, my tips today are more like advice, and it's the best advice I can give you if you really want to save money. Here it is: resist temptation. It's tough love here today on CruiseTipsTV, but here's the reality. Alternative dining, Alcoholic beverages, spa treatments, casino visits, shore excursions, Internet access, and photos can put a major strain on your pocketbook. All right let's talk about few ways to give into temptation without breaking the bank. Let's go through the list one by one. 1. Alternative dining. Buffets are awesome, but they can get crowded and noisy. Sometimes it's nice to sit down and be served in a real restaurant. Okay, so do it, but plan on going just once or twice? If you get into a routine, it will be tough to keep costs down. Also, check to see if your cruise line offers pre-purchase packages for meals. More cruise lines are making this option available. Royal Caribbean offers packages that can save you 25% on specialty restaurants. Talk to your travel agent or check the cruise lines website after booking. You'll need proof of booking -- typically a confirmation number will get you access to the line pre-reservation offerings. 2. Alcoholic beverages. As we mentioned in a previous video, check your ship's beverage policy. Many cruise lines allow you to bring one or two bottles of wine or champagne on embarkation day. Some lines, like Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Disney offer alcoholic flat fee beverage packages that could help keep costs down. 3. Spa Treatments. Typically the best deals are had on embarkation and port days. Check with the spa as soon as you can. If you're willing to give up a port day you can save as much as 30%. Some lines also offer pre-reservations on spa treatments. So, take a good look around the website after you have your confirmation number. 4. Casinos. If you like to gamble, set a limit on how much you are willing to spend. If, or when you hit that limit, walk away. There's plenty to do elsewhere. 5. Shore excursions. Consider going it alone. Book a taxi or van tour. Research the area beforehand so you have an idea of what you want to see, then look into booking with local operators in the area. Always look for reviews from previous cruisers. Another good way to comparison shop is to use sites like http://www.shoretrips.com. 6. Internet access. Unless you really, really need to get online, just avoid the onboard Internet. It's expensive and slow ... really slow. Wait for a port day, and find an Internet café. Depending on your itinerary you may also be able to use your cellular device. 7. Photos. The photos are fun, right up until you get them to the register. If you like the photos plan on limiting yourself to just one. Better yet, take your own photos. Take a small point and shoot or your cell phone everywhere you go. Work on your self-portrait skills. It will pay off in the long run. Who knows? Maybe we'll do an episode on mastering the art of the selfie. That's it for this episode. If you like these tips, please like, subscribe and share. We have more tips on the way.

Dating from 1972 when the airline was at the top of its market share, this Pan Am travelogue "Pan Am's World" begins with a flight from New York Kennedy Airport's Worldport to the Caribbean aboard a 747 jumbo jet. At this time the airline flew to Antigua, Jamaica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Haiti, St. Thomas, Trinidad, the Dominican Republic, St. Croix, Barbados, and Puerto Rico. Scenes from many different nations are seen throughout the film, which also includes a driving soundtrack populated with steel drums and reggae. Pan American World Airways, known from its founding until 1950 as Pan American Airways and commonly known as Pan Am, was the principal and largest international air carrier in the United States from 1927 until its collapse on December 4, 1991. Founded in 1927 as a scheduled air mail and passenger service operating between Key West, Florida, and Havana, Cuba, the airline became a major company credited with many innovations that shaped the international airline industry, including the widespread use of jet aircraft, jumbo jets, and computerized reservation systems. It was also a founding member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global airline industry association. Identified by its blue globe logo, the use of the word "Clipper" in aircraft names and call signs, and the white pilot uniform caps, the airline was a cultural icon of the 20th century. In an era dominated by flag carriers that were wholly or majority government-owned, it was also the unofficial flag carrier of the United States. During most of the jet era, Pan Am's flagship terminal was the Worldport located at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The film was directed by Geoffrey Reeve and produced by Film Services Limited of London. Geoffrey Reeve (1932–2010) was a well loved and successful British film director and producer. After graduating at Oxford with a degree in Law, he left for Canada and a job with ICI, making promotional films for the company. He was known for his creative flair and brought the Hollywood 'motion picture' to British shores We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
